Barefoot Tunis village Fayoum Gorgeous Fayuom Ecolodge sustainable tourism

Barefoot Lodge is a gorgeous hand-built eco-lodge in Fayoum

Less than two hours drive from Cairo, Fayoum is an evocative desert oasis with a magical lake, whimsical waterfalls, and a valley of ancient whales. Nestled on the edge of shimmering sands, overlooking a large salt water lake is ‘Tunis’ village, and hidden within that charming former fishing community you’ll find ‘Barefoot in Tunis’ a gorgeous hand-built eco-lodge born of the passions of Egyptian Sahra Yassin.

Barefoot in Tunis is the ultimate Tiny House Experience in Egypt. 3 self-catering tiny homes are dedicated to sustainable and conscious living in beautiful Tunis Village.

Barefoot in Tunis is a unique mix of accomodation styles. You can chose between three self- catering tiny house rentals (Barefoot, El Sheesh, Tea Cup) that offer simplified luxury with a rustic chic, or The Room that is located on the first floor of the main house … and yes, the view is stunning.  Tiny houses come with everything you need – nothing more, nothing less… and what they lack in square footage, they make up with unique charm and clever design.

Each of the three houses has its distinct style, but all have a fully equipped kitchen/ kitchenette, an outdoor seating area with a private bbq … and all have their unique charm!

the Barefoot in Tunis movement, which offers guests a unique combination of lodging styles. It is located in Tunis Village, Al Fayoum. They provide “simplified luxury” with a greater emphasis on a concern for the environment. This property sleeps three people and features air conditioning (hot and cold), a fully furnished kitchen, a private bathroom, a private heated plunge pool, a private deck and garden, and an outdoor fire pit. So, what distinguishes this Airbnb from the rest? Well, it’s the simplicity that brings nature and modernity together to create something that’s both relevant to our time and deeply rooted in our tradition.

HERBAL TEAS FROM OUR GARDEN

one of my pleasures in life is tea. I used to consume a lot of Black Tea (actually still do) until I discovered the world of herbal teas. I started simple. Chamomille, Peppermint … the standards. I learned about their health benefits and when to drink them. Ginger tea, for example, has become a staple of my diet, so is Habaq Tea. The fact that I can go out in my garden and cut fresh peppermint, or olive tree leaves along with some kefir lime leaves to brew in a tea has made it even more intriguing.

Brewing Tea out of fresh and pesticide free plants will get you the best of the garden instantaneously. Even better, brewing tea out of fresh plants is super easy. Just stick a handful of your greens in a pot and pour boiling water over them. Let boil for a few minutes and you have a delicious tea.

Barefoot was built with great consideration for the environment and commits itself to sustainable tourism practices. We are trying our best to have a low impact on the environment and local culture as possible. At the same time, we try to help  generate employment for local people, while ensuring a positive experience for our guests.

Here are some practices that we implement at Barefoot in Tunis, we are well aware that there is much more that we can do … and will in the future Our three tiny houses reflect the designs and heritage of the local culture Our garden is full of edible plants, as we believe that home grown is the best food. During construction, we tried to use as many locally harvested and sustainable and/or recyclable building materials as possible Use our grey water to water non-edible plants in the garden Only work with local staff and encourage our guests to use local service providers Tea Cup is partly built with sand filled plastic bottles
